HL believes..

  1. Poverty is the denial of basic rights to which everyone is entitled
  2. Poverty is complex and needs to be understood in its entirety
  3. Poverty makes people more vulnerable to conflict, disaster, and abuse
  4. Poverty is an outcome that can be avoided by:
    • Addressing the causes of poverty
    • Helping people to address poverty themselves
    • Using education as a tool to avoid poverty
    • Supporting those who wish to change.
  5. Poverty can only be addressed with mutual respect for people, cultures, languages, ethnicity, religion, gender, sexuality, age, and disability.
