This week saw the largest festival in the Himalayan region - Dashain. The festival is the one time of the year when families all go back to their homes. Daughters return to their parental home, sons return from their work to see their families.
This year has been especially auspicious for Himalayan Learning - five of our sponsored children have passed their School Leaving Certificate (SLC). They were the first Himalayan Learning children to reach class 10.
All five children were girls and have been with Himalayan Learning for up to six years each. With your support, these girls have done something most in their families and communities will only ever dream of.
Sponsored girl Kumari Lama excelled and got the highest level in the school, securing a First Division certificate which is truly great. The rest of the girls also out-shot their peers with Second Division results.
The SLC exams were taken in April / May and the results were published a few weeks ago. Now the girls are deciding what to do over the next two years. Their choices are slim, but Himalayan Learning will support them wherever possible. We will keep you up-to-date with their choices.
With the first phase of the Jaladevi school renovation scheme completed (see below), the project now moves on to building two new class rooms. More
