Contraception

The number of children born from each woman (called the birth rate) is often a clear signal both of the gender equality and the level of economic development within a country.

Contracetion is often a highly contentious issue but it is also an important indicator of the position of women in society, and their access to healthcare. The greater the number of women using contraceptives, the higher the standard of female education and development.

The lack of contraception is also the basis for the huge growth in population which has devastating effects on providing education, healthcare, and the amount of food and water available.

Whilst Himalayan Learning does not currently work with contraception, the following graph shows how few women in Nepal have access to contraception:
