Education
In every project Himalayan Learning supports we aim to consider the role of girls and how we can involve women in the planning, organising, and running of the programme.
According to a recent United Nations GEI survey the major constraints on the education of women in Nepal are:
- Extreme poverty and cost of going to school
- Child labour and the burden of home chores
- Not enough school places
- Negative and discriminatory environments and social practices
- No employment opportunities
When we asked Nepalese parents the main reason for not sending their daughters to school, most parents stated "unaffordability".
In response, we help children to get to school by providing them with books, school uniforms, stationary, and other items, and ask communities to address other negative issues.
