Helping Themselves

Helping people is never successful unless the help enables them to help themselves.

himalayan people and local business
• Local kitchens set up by school leaving girls help the local economy and their families, giving them the independence and initiative for future development
Supporting people economically does nothing to advance local people, it instead creates a culture of dependency. The most efficient and long lasting way to help is to to empower and provide the skills and support to change themselves. Our projects are run very minimally from external sources, instead we empower local people to help themselves and come to us for specific support where needed. We make sure that we pick the best places to help, such as by supporting women to build themselves small enterprises, usually with 1-2 year interest-free loans of no more than £30 in total, together with business advice and support. Our sponsorship project aims to enable children in this new generation not to have the problems that their parents have, and whilst we may not be able to ensure that they are 'rich' we can enable their lives to be more worthwhile, healthier, and valuable, and help them to feed back into their own communities.
