Shanti School Renovation

Shanti Srijana School is one of most undeveloped schools that Himalayan Learning support and we are working with the local community to improve it.

Shanti Srijana school is one of our worst schools and has no windows, no doors, no desks, no toilets, and no water supply.

Every school year about 200 children start the term but, after one term, only half remain. Whilst the school has 5 class rooms, there are only 2 teachers and only 1 is paid.

We want to turn the school around and have worked with the local community to develop a plan. Using their manpower we will supply materials and management to improve the school, including building toilets, bringing in a water supply and setting up a water tank.

We will also renovate the building and make the classrooms nice to study in so that children stay in school. To do this, we believe that it will require a budget of £1,200. As soon as we raise the funding, we will start making the children's lives' better. Below is a 360 degree panorama of the school.

Supporter's comments
Oliver says "For those noticing a change in name, for some reason we uploaded the wrong name for the school. Shanti school (which means School of Peace) is the school we are working on, and it is in the village of Balawatadhada in the Mahabharat hills of Nepal. It is a predominantly ethnically Magar village."
Oliver says "Hope you enjoy the new animation of our plans for the school!"
Jana says "Great to see you are getting towards to your total. I am sure the pupils will be so happy when you get the work finished. Well done Himalayan Learning"
Oliver says "A great big thanks to everyone who has helped on this project (listed above and not!). We will start the project in the next 6 weeks and keep everyone up-to-date with how it is proceeding. The speed of the project really depends on the political situation and whether the elections take place on the 10th of April."
CarolineCurrie says "Glad you've received all the money needed for Shanti school - I was wondering what is the up to date position of the work. Has it started yet?"
Oliver says "We appointed a person who was managing it but they had to leave 2 weeks ago. We have finished the series of meetings with the village to plan the practicalities of how it will occur. We are now arranging a new coordinator to look after the project as an overseer. The major problem with the organisation is that the school is a very long way from any roads or transport and so we are having to ask porters to carry all the materials on their backs. Whilst things of being happening, we have not been receiving any photos or videos yet so we are hoping to get them."
